I was a college freshman attending my first philosophy class. The professor, Mr. Glen Taylor said something I have never forgotten. Looking out at a class whose minds were like empty sponges he said this; “ your words invite people to live or die.”

For years I have reflected on that statement. This morning almost 40 years later I heard those words again but this time from the pen of Solomon. He wrote in his book of Proverbs that; “the tongue has the power of life and death.”

Every day we have the opportunity to speak life or death into the lives of the people we meet. That could be a spouse, friend, colleague, employer or even your teacher. Ask the Spirit of Jesus to fill your heart and mouth with words that invite people to live and not die.

Words like; “ your special, well done, thanks for being considerate, thanks for listening, we will get through this together, I believe in you and how about … I love you.”

With the help of the Spirit choose today to ‘speak life!’

“Bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me and making their treasuries full.” Proverbs 18:21
