Mom conjures up many pictures. Think stability, think softness, think band-aids, think tears, think understanding, think laughter, think guidance, think a friend, think spiritual mentor – think Mom.

For me to not recognize the gift of motherhood on this special weekend would be hmm …unthinkable.

Tucked away in the book of 2 Timothy the apostle Paul is encouraged by the faith of his young understudy Timothy.

What impresses me is the impact Paul recognized that Timothy’s mother and grandmother had upon him. Listen in to what he says …

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

The faith of those two women was described as a living faith which took root in Timothy’s life as well. No mom is perfect but then again who is? Yet the Bible extols the calling of motherhood and so should we.

We live in a time when morals, values, and society, in general, is in a state of flux. May I encourage you, mothers, to stay close to Jesus. Listen for His Spirit and as a spiritual compass keep calling us back to our true north.

On this Mother’s day weekend …we tip our hat, clap our hands and cheer you on to be those women whose faith is alive. Mom’s who intentionally pass on what the Bible calls “a sincere faith.” (2 Timothy 2:5)
